* Top Ten Tuesday * Rocking Character Names

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and The Bookish, where we get to reveal our top ten of whatever they chose as the weekly topic! Click here for a list of future topics.
My Top Ten Coolest Character Names

 Eden from After Eden
Cora from A Map of The Known World
Ezra from Severed Heads, Broken Hearts
Nora from Hush, Hush
Auden from Along for The Ride
 Lochan from Forbidden
 Savannah from Breathing
 Camden from She's So Money
 Dexter from This Lullaby
 Haven from That Summer

So I went for unusual, but awesome names rather than just really weird ones! I swear reading is such a great way to pick up cool names. Throw the baby books out girls and just read some fiction.

What are your favourite, unusual character names?

If she's not reading or blogging, you can find her catching up on Teen Wolf, or reigning supreme with Scrabble/Mario Kart. Stalk her on twitter, instagram or goodreads.

  1. Cool! This "Top 10" was really fun. One of these days I need to read Sarah Dessen; I've heard great things about her. :)

    1. Oh, you definitely should check her out! She's an amazing writer. Top two books I always recommend for new Desseners: This Lullaby and The Truth About Forever.

  3. Ooh nice! Know a few of these characters! Surprisingly not the first I've seen of this Dexter! That was actually one of the last Sarah Dessen books I read in my YA days!. Then I was craving paranormal and YA didn't have that at the time so I moved to adult books!

    Here's my Tuesday Post

    Have a GREAT day!

  4. Great list! I love that you put some of Sarah Dessen's names on there. A few of hers drive my crazy, but for the most part, I love how unique and creative they are. And they always fit the character so well. Adore the name Dexter. It's become a favorite.

    1. Yeah sometimes Sarah can be a little ... adventurous (?) with her names. Like Mclean. What was that?! Lol

  6. Oh, I do love the name "Nora." That name is barely used in YA world, but I think it's really sweet and fits the character in Hush, Hush. Great list, Allie!

    1. I never actually got around to seeing that, but if it's going to ruin my perception of Dexter from This Lullaby, then I'd rather not lol

  17. Cool list! I love Lochan the best I think. But maybe cause I loved Lochan. lol

Even though it's not really unique I always love it when a guy's character is named Sam. I don't know why, I've just always loved that name for a guy especially. Also love the names Aiden (Covenant) and Daemon (Lux).

Names I hated? All of the Razorland series names (Deuce, Fade, Stalker, and Tegan). Just terrible choices, especially for the girls (Deuce & Tegan). When I wrote a review for Outpost and talked about them, someone who hadn't heard of the books actually thought it was a GLBT book because they all sound like boys. Not that I have a problem with GLBT books, because I really don't. But I just think that's a pretty good sign that the name choices were kind of a miss.

    1. Never read the Razorland series but man those names are obscure. Unique is one thing, but pointlessly weird is another. I feel like authors often get the two mixed up and in trying to be original, they end up just being ridiculous with character names. A lot of the time if I find names too absurd it'll put me off even reading the book. It just bugs me, because I think it takes away from the story!
