From my camera to you! {The Birdie Weekly}

Welcome to my weekly Monday post, where I share my highlights of the previous week with you all, be it books (likely), cake (more likely), or anything else cute and random.

 1. Yep, that's the back of my head. Now, I know what you're thinking 'erm, Allie. Don't you ALWAYS have a head? Why is this special?' Well, after nearly ten years of chemically straightening my hair, in October 2013 I finally cut off all of my straight / relaxed ends and went 'natural'.
My hair barely grazed my shoulders, in fact, it was pretty much just below my chin. My hair is now healthy for the first time, which means I'm able to grow it out for the first time and LOOK! It's only January and it's already past my shoulders and at arm-pit length. *Does the funky chicken*

2. So my family and I have this thing where we're huge losers and play board games every Sunday. We recently found Rummikub hiding up in the attic and now I'm addicted to it. Well, that and Scrabble. They're the only two I want to play on Sundays now. Mostly because I'm so awesome at them both. Yeah, don't challenge me. I'm the master at the board manipulation bit. YOU WON'T KNOW WHERE YOUR TILES WENT!

 3. My grandmother has a miniature poodle called Pippa and when we first got her she could fit in the palm of my hand. Now she's got so big. She's like a little sheep. One who likes to lick my toes and, as I found out last night, get so excited she pees on me. My jeggings thank you Pippa (no, they really don't).

 4. My Nonna bought us an electric mixer! I can now bake in style. I just throw my ingredients in there and WALK AWAY so the machine can do all the work for me. It's so brilliantly lazy. I hope this isn't how Judgement Day begins.

 5. So I woke up to frosted grass. The cold is settling in for sure! My car this morning was frosted on the inside. It was bizarre. People are even saying there'll be snow in February, but all I can think is where was all the snow at Christmas? Huh? Where were you when we needed you, snow?

 6. One of the reading challenges I'm taking part in this year is to clean out my TBR and I cannot even tell you how long I've been eyeing up The Body Finder for. Reading it now though, I'm kind of underwhelmed. Maybe I waited too long and then built up an unattainable fantasy of how awesome it'd be? On the plus side, the cover looks great on my shelf.

 7. I kind of cheated here, because I actually forgot to take a picture of this. Thankfully Google images had my back, so I (respectfully) stole one from there. Don't call the cops!
Anyway, this leave-in conditioner is so amazing I had to share it. It has done wonders for my hair (it feels like silk and fluffy bunnies and all things wonderful!). Plus the ingredients are super natural and not chemical-laden, which is great because I only buy natural products for my hair.

 8. Of course when I got my new mixer I knew what I was going to make: mini salted caramel chocolate eclairs. Admittedly, this batch looks like little poos, but only because they're half-finished, I swear! I forgot to take a picture of the finished product but my God you guys. They were awesome. Salted caramel custard inside and a deep chocolate gaze on top with sprinkles of sea salt *drools*. I may have eaten five. Or maybe six. Honestly, I lost count.

 9. SNOOD. I have a snood! It's so warm and cozy and was pretty much the only thing that kept me from being frost-bitten when I spend fifteen minutes de-icing my car this morning. Scarves are so 90s.

So that's my week in pictures! Shocked there wasn't more food? Yeah, so was I!

So, did you guys have to de-ice the inside of your car too? What are some of your favourite old-school board games?

Hope none of you got peed on as well!

  1. Curly hair FTW! I did chemical straightening for years before I decided to screw it and go natural. It's so much better! Your curls are beautiful by the way. I don't think I could ever get mine so tame. I've always been curious about The Body Finder. But if it's underwhelming then I should pass on it, lol. Great post!

    1. Same here! I was straightening my hair with chemicals and flat-irons for about eight years! I went natural this October and I love it :D Have you tried the CG method? It's done wonders for taming my hair and eliminating frizzies

  6. Awe that mini poodle is so cute =) Although I'm not really a fan of poodles. My family once had a dog when I was growing up that was half poodle. That dog was evil! I hope you have fun reading The Body Finder =)

    1. Haha Pippa is lovely, in fact she's a little TOO friendly. She's constantly licking you as soon as you touch her. It's ridiculous. I come home smelling of dog spit: not a good perfume haha

    1. No I've never heard of hobby board games! I'm Googling now :D

And thank you! <3 I'm so happy to finally be just embracing my hair, instead of burning it straight every day lol

  9. Your hair is amazing! My hair is a weird type of curly and frizzy, which makes it largely unmanageable. Recently, I've been trying to move over to using only natural products, and it's like a whole new world has opened up to me!

Re: weather - I've never been happier to live in South Florida! Even though it's actually been chilly the past couple of weeks, it's nothing compared to what the rest of the US has been getting.

    1. Oooh have you tried the CG method? Seriously it's amazing for helping my curls to be frizz-less and defined :D You can buy the handbook, which has a DVD, on Amazon for only a couple of pound!
