Recapping June: What Last Month Had To Offer

What June meant for me:
I took up karate! I'm basically a ninja already. Seriously. And I can chop wood with my head like a pro (it knocks me out, but, psh, irrelevant).

And you may have noticed either from just visiting or – if you have me on twitter – my various tweets ranting about chronicling the whole thing, but I HAVE A CUSTOM DOMAIN NAME. I'm totally dorking out about it. Which is counterintuitive, since this is meant to mean I've morphed into a classy, mature individual with a blog worthy of its own domain (stop laughing).

I finally discovered how to make the perfect brownies. And I really mean perfect, you guys. Soft and chewy and so moreish. I am officially a brownie-making goddess. Bow down!

Ohhh and my hair is getting longer and actually behaving itself. Which is a miracle because my curls shrink up like nobody's business and are normally very unruly. But look! The beast has been tamed (well, to a degree)!:

Obsessions:
You guys may or may not know that I'm a natural product junkie. Everything from lip balm to hair stuff, I like to know exactly what I'm using and I make sure it's as natural as possible. Heck, I even make a lot of my own stuff! My latest discovery has been this My DNA leave-in, which has such awesome ingredients and smells divine. My hair is loving it!

I have so many bits of jewellery always floating around, so I decided to be a bit more organised and find some funky ways to 'store' them:

And behold, my new mini bookcase with my iddy biddy orchid fairy lights. It looks so adorable next to my bed and was much needed since my bookcase has been overflowing for ages!

So that was my month! How did June treat you?

  1. Ooh karate! That should be a lot of fun! Just make sure you only break wood with your head in a safe area (like... not a street. That'd be a bad place to pass out >.>).

Yay for a customer domain name! That is always very exciting, so congrats. Oh, but don't worry. I don't think it really makes any of us fancy and mature afterwards. It's all an act ;)

PERFECT BROWNIES? Do you have my address? Send some this way!! O:)

And haha, I love how you got a new little bookshelf and yet it's already full of books. Ah, the life of a bookworm :P

June was pretty good for me! No baking, no ninja-lessons, and same old blog stuff, but I did move in with my boyfriend and his family and started regularly working out, so I guess that's good? Oh, and working on my dissertation... which is okay. :P

    1. Yeah, I won't break wood on like, a cliff or a balcony or something. It could be disastrous ;)

I will mail you brownies! But the Royal Mail dudes might eat them. If they know it's from me, they have a habit of opening it all and devouring it before it can be delivered. So if you don't receive any, complain to RM. The greedy buggars! :P

Congrats on the move!!! That's definitely good. And your dissertation too! Ahh the days of uni. I actually miss doing my dissertation because I genuinely had such fun with it (though I did Creative Writing, so my dissertation was basically me writing a novel, then writing an essay on my own novel, which is obviously always going to be fun :D)

  2. Your hair is beautiful! Is it naturally curly? I have semi-natural curls, but as my hair grows out it just becomes a fuzzy mess, blech. I like having longer hair (first time ever it's past my shoulders), but I end up pulling it up all the time-kind of defeats the purpose of having long hair :P I'll have to look into the leave in product you suggested :)

    1. Thank you! And yes, it is natural :)

It is a really great leave-in and not at all expensive, like a lot of natural haircare products can be!

  3. Karate is so cool! I wish I could take it up. My university is giving judo classes, so I hope I can sign up for it on time :) YOUR HAIR IS SO GORGEOUS. I always have to flat iron mine because the curls DO.NOT.COOPERATE. It's horrible so I just iron it and keep walking.

Brownies, you say? I'd really love that recipe one day ;D

    1. Ohh judo would be cool! I'm doing Shotokan and it's just great – really good way to keep fit and learn how to defend yourself.

Noooo, embrace your natural locks! Have you ever heard of the CG method? It's a godsend. I was straightening my hair / getting chemical treatments done for basically half my life before I decided 'screw it' and went CG. Best. Decision. Ever

  4. I'm actually really envious of people who have natural curls. My hair is straight like an ironing board so it looks pretty flat (bangs help to give it more volume though... on good days) and makes me look like a drowned rat or something. Mehhh. But congrats on getting it to control itself all the same! And whoo about the new domain name! You're officially part of the cool kids club. ;)

The cover for The Museum of Intangible Thing is so prettyyyy. I could look at it all day and get lost in all its picture-filtered glory. I've also heard nothing but amazing things about it, so I'm hoping to check it out one day, once I've gotten my TBR pile under control. So many ARCs I need to read right now; I'm regretting not controlling myself when it came to requesting books on EW and NG.

And wow, your room looks really cool! Well, from what I can see of it, anyway. :P I have this huge earring holder hanging in my wardrobe, so I basically just stuff all my jewelry there. And omg, fairylights for the win. Mine aren't nearly as pretty or long as yours -- sigh.

Hope July will be just as awesome for you as June was, Allie! And also, thanks so much for mentioning my post. <3

    1. Ohhh, I've been dying to sit with the cool kids. If I'd have known a custom domain would be the way in, I'd have done it ages ago!

The Museum is an epic book, seriously. I reviewed it on here and it got 4 stars. It's a road trip book with such a sinister edge and surprising depth. It was so poignant in parts!

I get my fairylights from Amazon lol. They're so cheap there and they're battery operated, which I like, since most once in stores are plug-in and that's just inconvenient!

  6. Loving "Raging Fire." Such a great song. And ooh your hair is too cute!! i wish my hair would behave itself. It's so thick and frizzy; I have some natural curls, but nothing like your hair!

Love your mini bookcase too, and the lights around it are an adorable touch.

  7. Your curls are amazing! I know people with curly hair often can't stand it (and as the owner of super frizzy and unruly hair, I feel you!) but they are just gorgeous! Also, I need a little bookshelf like that in my life. Too cute! And congrats on the custom domain, that is so exciting :)

    1. Thank you! <3 I spent so many years hating my hair and getting it straightened every day (plus getting chemical straightening treatments); it's so nice to finally embrace my hair and just go natural.

  8. Hey, my hair looks like that, except less tame. I live in the Southern US, which means it's 8,000% humidity all the time, so my hair resembles a massive ball of lint. But, somewhere in there, are curls.

BY the way- congrats on the domain name. Very exciting!

  10. Your hair is GORGEOUS. My grows like Rapunzel. I'm not even joking. -_- I want it short but noooo, in like 3 weeks it's past my shoulders again. *sobs a little with losing hair battle* Curls are the best though. MERIDA.

But stooop talking about brownies. Ohhh, I'm hungry. Starving. I need a brownie. Good for you learning to chop things with your head. That's marvellous. Very useful. I TOTALLY vote for a post about what it's like to do karate, because gosh it sounds interesting. CONGRATS ON THE DOMAIN NAME.

That sounds awesome that you've taken up karate, it feels really good to let it all out doesn't it? Congrats on the domain name as well, how exciting!

    1. LOL 'shelfies'. That is possibly the best thing I've heard all day.

Karate is amazing :) it's such a greta way to keep fit, learn about self control and respect, let out some aggression and also learn self-defence (which I think is essential for every woman to know)

Congrats on getting your own domain! Have a great July!

    1. What really works is to substitute one of the eggs for equal amounts of oil - makes for such a chewy, gorgeously moist brownie that keeps that great texture for days. In my cakes and cupcakes I only ever use oil - no egg - and it's so good. But I think egg and oil is best for brownies to get the texture juuuuuust right. Also, bake very low (like 150/160C) for about 45-50 minutes, rather than higher for shorter times :)
