Recapping September

Self-improvement month. I discovered a lot of new things about myself and the kind of person I want to be . . . apparently they're a little different. But that's good. There's always room for self-improvement and it's nice, in a way, to know what I need to work on.

I've also started learning Italian again! I kind of fell off the language train last year (because I have the attention span of a five-year-old), but now I'm back. Lessons are on. I'm re-learning all the stuff I've forgotten (and feeling high and mighty when they try to teach me things I already know) and I'm loving it. I don't know why I stopped, but I hope I never stop again. Life goal: speak three foreign languages.

And I've made the decision to go back to university to complete my Masters degree next September. Which means by the time I go back, it'll have been two years since I graduated. Which means I'm getting kind of old. Which means I need to start telling stories about back in my day. Prepare for tales of old!

DoGaM wins every prize possible, for being the best ending to a trilogy ever. No hyperbole necessary. 620 pages of perfection.

This month saw me finally giving into Siiri's powers of persuasion and picking up the Addicted series. Which I feel in love with. This book is told from the POV of two side characters – Ryke and Daisy and, God, they're perfect. My OTP for this series and I'm so happy they got their own book!

I fancy myself a bit of a chef, which you all probably know from my various baking tweets. But I'm not just a dessert person (though, yes, desserts are most important); I try out new recipes for breakfast and dinner daily, and the bog-standard folder I was using to hold all my stuff just wasn't cutting it. So behold, my fancy new folder! I also dorked out a little and got these cool recipe dividers and multi-coloured plastic wallets, so I could group recipes between dividers too. And you all thought I was kidding when I told you how much I love organisation!

So that was my month! How did September treat you?

Allie is a Pimm's-obsessed reader, who dreams of road tripping over America, learning to surf & becoming fluent in all the languages of her heritage (which, sadly, does not include Elvish). If she's not reading or blogging, you can find her catching up on Teen Wolf, or reigning supreme with Scrabble/Mario Kart. Stalk her on twitter, instagram or goodreads.

I loved doing Creative Writing for my BA and learned to much, so I'm excited to go back and also get more experience publishing-wise

  2. So awesome that you've realized a lot of stuff about yourself, Allie! I guess I did, too, in a way. This month my friends and I had this sort of heart-to-heart session, if you can call it that, and I learned stuff about myself that I wouldn't notice on my own. :)

Italian? Cool! I'm trying to teach myself Japanese, but it's tough. It would be amazing to learn three languages! I'd love to speak Japanese, French and maybe even Latin. xD

Oh, masters! Good luck with school, girl. I'm sure you'll do great. ^_^

Haha, yay for Hothouse Flower (which I haven't read yet)! So excited for Addicted After All next month. <33

    1. I haven't had a good heart-to-heart in ages. We've got a girls' weekend coming up soon though, so once the wine starts flowing I'm guessing it'll happen haha.
It's always nice when people help you see things you may not have seen yourself :) and it's good to have that support system.

Oh wow, Japanese would be amazing to learn!!! I'd love to speak French too - it's such a beautiful language. My brother is learning it and it's great. Plus Latin, YES, I'd be able to translate all those episodes of Supernatural ;)

Hothouse was my favourite by the way! Raisy are totally my OTP

  4. *tries an Italian accent* ITALIANO! Oh, bella! Or whatever they call gorgeous girls. Gah. I want to learn Italian. Someday, yo. LEARN ESTONIAN MWHAHAHA. You'll probs die learning it because it's tough for (some of) us and it's really tough for foreign people. Whooop! We shall be uni buddies too then. Even though we're not in the same uni, but you know what I mean. Pretty great month for you regardig the ratings. On the Fence was obviously a small mistake on your radar, but let's forget about it. Both of us! TADAAAAAAAA I INTRODUCE YOU ALLIE 2.0, WORLD! IT'S A NEW AND BETTER VERSION OF HER BECAUSE DUHH. She has now read the Addicted series and is shipping all the couples and has an OTP. I AM NOT SORRY NOR WILL I EVER BE SORRY FOR PUSHING THESE ON YOU AND LILY. Btw, you need to read Thrive okay. LIKE RIGHT NOW PLS. ANNNND these songs will all go to my Spotify songs and psst! I love OneRepublic and FOB :) Show of the month for me has to be either Teen Wolf (obviously), How to Get Away with Murder or Red Band Society (which both had such good pilots) and the last one being my new obsession. Happy soon-to-be October, love! <33

    1. LOL molto bene la mia amica (I think I got that right . . . kind of haha). I WILL LEARN ESTONIAN AND THEN WE CAN HAVE SECRET CONVERSATIONS MWAHAHA. It does look hard though.

I like Italian because it follows a lot of the same rules English does, but also because once you learn a language like Italian it's very easy to learn languages like French and Spanish. It kind of helps lay the groundwork for those.

Not that it matters for me, because the other languages I plan on learning are Greek and German lol BUT STILL.

ON THE FENCE. HAHA. I knew you'd be on my side with that. We're obviously just too high-brow for those books ;)

I'M NOT SORRY YOU INTRODUCED ME EITHER, DUDE. I'D HAVE NEVER KNOWN RAISY OR LILO OR COBOLLAWAY. Life would be empty.

Enjoy the playlist!!!!!!!!! One Republic is amazing. I'm a bit heartbroken I won't be going to see them live any more. THE PAIN.

  5. Congrats on deciding to go back to school! I had my paperwork all filled out to start a Masters of Library Science program, but then the boyfriend proposed and my plans got a bit sidetracked lol. I always wondered what would have happened though, if I had pursued it :)

  6. Congrats on a month of decision making! Especially going back to do your Masters. That's amazing! Learning Italian must be so much fun. I took Chinese for a while, to broaden my spectrum to three languages as well, but then I closed the idea. The end. Although technically I still like going around saying that I do speaking but in reality, my skills end at being able to say fried noodles and tea (which is all I personally need, tbh)

Looks like you had a great month of reading. Hopefully October treats you just as well! x

    1. It's great to learn, and because I am Italian on my mother's side it's really cool to get in touch with my heritage and to be able to speak to my Nonna in her own language :D
And hey, being able to order tea and noodles is essential. I could live off of that!

  7. Ooh cute folder! I wish I was a good cook, but I'm really not. That's awesome you're learning Italian. I'd love to learn German. I'm currently in Graduate school, so that's exciting you've decided to go. :)

    1. I never used to be, but it's a s simple as following a recipe. And then overtime you just naturally adjust things to suit your taste and what you've learned :) it's a really easy thing to do. I think people have misconceptions about how hard it is to cook, but in reality it's not difficult to do at all

  8. I am insanely impressed that you know what kind of person you want to be. I... haven't a clue. Congratulations on going back to school! When I went back, it was after like, 6 years. It isn't bad, I promise. You get back into it much easier than you'd think. I ended up realizing that it was NOT what I wanted to do, but I don't think that had anything to do with age.

And wow, 3 languages!? Also impressive! I was a Spanish major in college for a few years but I can't speak Spanish. At all.

I am so glad that the DoSaB series ends so well, especially since I am needing to read it ASAP! Also, I am really loving your playlist!

    1. Yeah, it'll be weird going back, but I think it'll be so beneficial. And if I'm the oldest one there I'll just pretend I'm wise ;)

Three is my goal because my family are from three different countries: Greece, Italy and Germany. So I want to be able to speak all the languages of my heritage :) I think it'll be a nice goal to accomplish, even if it takes me years and years to do.

So happy you love the playlist! There are so many great songs I've been listening to this month, so it's always nice when other people can jam to them too!

    2. You definitely won't be the oldest- in my classes, there were some older women (like 50s and 60s) and one woman who was 81! I mean, kudos to her! I found there were a LOT of people my age (I was 27 at the time) and quite a few older.

Also, your family is from some amazing places! I have been trying to convince my mom that we need a family vacation to Greece, so even though I won't be able to speak any of those languages, at least I will have been to all those countries ;) Speaking the languages is an awesome goal!

  9. Oh no a Masters degree! That is like my worst nightmare haha. Luckily my career path in I.T. doesn't require it since I have no ambition to go into management. Once I'm done with school I certainly wouldn't want to go back again :/

That's cool that you're learning Italian again. I've always been fascinated with other languages. I did actually go to Italy and hearing the different language really made me wish I knew Italian. I do know French though so that's something [:

Ahhh, I really do love anything to do with the kitchen. Seriously, I'm the girl that will drag you into all of those kitchen stores and could spend hours looking at all of the different cooking utensils. They're just so cute and colorful okay. Haha! I totally understand your love of the folder okay.

Italian is one of the most beautiful languages. And because I'm part Italian I'm even more determined to learn it. I want to be in touch with my heritage!
French is also GORGEOUS. Seriously. Any word in French sounds amazing. I learnt a bit in school, but I've completely forgotten how to say anything other than 'shut up'. Which is not the most pleasant conversation starter LOL.

Omg, you are a girl after my own heart. I love those stores! I literally have to be restrained by my friends / family, or I'd just by anything. Utensils are my thing.

Thanks so much for stopping by :D can't wait to fangirl with you!
